Tulsa Rowing Club’s Sister City to Compete in 20th Annual Regatta April 16

Rowers from Celle, Germany to participate in races

Tulsa, Okla. – The Tulsa Rowing Club will welcome participants from its sister city in Celle, Germany, during the 20th annual Route 66 Tulsa Regatta on Saturday, April 16.

More than 300 rowers and 20 rowing teams from Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Germany will compete in the 1,000-meter sprint races sponsored by the Tulsa Rowing Club. Races will take place on the Arkansas River and will begin south of the 21st Street Bridge and finish near the River West Festival Park.

The Celler Ruderverein rowing team from Germany was founded in 1957 and will be represented by five members who are scheduled to arrive in Tulsa on April 12.

“This annual regatta is the largest event for the region’s rowing community, and we’re pleased to have a German rowing team from our sister city participate this year,” said Tulsa Rowing Club regatta organizer Christine LaBarre. “This regatta is the most exciting action this part of the Arkansas River sees all year.”

Spectators can watch a full slate of 30 high school, college and master’s crew races from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. the Saturday of the regatta. The best place to view races is at the Tulsa Rowing Club boathouse, 2100 S. Jackson Ave., near the floating amphitheater on the Arkansas River’s west bank. Food and drink concessions will be available, along with merchandise tents offering T-shirts and rowing apparel.

In addition, spectators of all ages will have the opportunity to sign up for a learn-to-row class so they can try rowing for themselves.
